The exhibition “NEOGEO - Décalages féminins” brings together two generations of female artists who deal with geometric abstraction: Claudia Comte, Isabelle Cornaro, Anaïs Defago, Sylvie Fleury, Athene Galiciadis and Andrea Heller. Together they form a terrain in which feminist perspectives, art historical references and media processes intertwine.
In the exhibition "We Are Here!", Museum Haus Konstruktiv is celebrating its move to the Löwenbräukunst site, after 24 years in the ewz Unterwerk Selnau building. The first phase of this move sees the museum opening in the eastern part of Limmatstrasse 268. The relocation not only marks a new chapter in the story of this institution, but also provides a perfect opportunity to showcase its high-calibre collection in a meticulously curated exhibition.
Ever since the Foundation for Constructivist, Concrete and Conceptual Art was set up in 1986, the collection has been steadily growing and it now comprises around 1000 works. We Are Here! makes it possible to experience this rich heritage in three exhibition spaces. One exhibition hall is partly dedicated to the work of the early concretists Fritz Glarner, Max Bill, Camille Graeser, Richard Paul Lohse and Verena Loewensberg. Two additional rooms draw attention to more recent developments: Here, new acquisitions and freshly restored artworks are presented, including pieces by Ricardo Alcaide, Andreas Christen, Harald Naegeli, Elodie Pong and Francisco Sierra.

‘Ed Clark. Paint is the Subject’ is the first solo exhibition in Switzerland dedicated to this pioneering American abstractionist. Curated by Tanya Barson in close collaboration with the artist’s estate, the exhibition at our Limmatstrasse gallery brings together key works spanning seven decades, offering a comprehensive overview of Clark’s groundbreaking practice.
The exhibition features a broad selection of his dynamic large-scale paintings and works on paper, as well as early works and an example of his use of the shaped canvas. The presentation is complemented by archival photographs and documents that provide biographical and historical context, tracing the evolution of his innovative approach and lasting impact on modern painting.
Clark remained under-acknowledged for much of his career, but he received late recognition in his lifetime, a recognition that continues to grow. A member of the New York School, Ed Clark contributed towards redefining abstraction in the 1950s with two characteristic features—the deployment of the shaped canvas, and his unconventional use of a household broom to create sweeping, gestural compositions—the show’s title coming from a quote by the artist indicating the centrality of his medium to his work. Stylistically, his work bridges the physicality and spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism with the structured clarity of hard-edged abstraction, cementing his significance in postwar painting.
Renowned for a pioneering approach to painting that synthesizes conceptual art, figuration and abstraction, celebrated New York-based artist Pat Steir unveils a suite of new paintings for her exhibition at the Zurich, Limmatstrasse gallery, her first solo exhibition with the gallery in Europe.
The exhibition precedes Steir’s solo presentation in July at Hauser & Wirth’s location on Wooster Street in New York, in which the artist reimagines one of her iconic wall drawings almost 50 years after its first installation.
Among the great innovators of contemporary painting, Steir first came to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s for her iconographic canvases and immersive wall drawings. By the late 1980s, her inventive approach to painting—the rigorous pouring technique seen in her Waterfall works—attracted substantial critical acclaim. The new works in Zurich extend and expand upon Steir’s ongoing Waterfall series, wherein she intentionally cedes control and allows paint to create its own image via the artist’s signature technique of streaming and layering upon a background of gridded chalk lines. The resulting expressive quality of the paintings, which range in scale and vivid hues, underline Steir’s position as one of the most enduringly original contemporary painters whose conceptual practice transcends the divide between figuration and abstraction.
The exhibition anticipates the release of a new artist monograph from Hauser & Wirth Publishers, ‘Pat Steir: Paintings,’ charting the artist’s work from 2018 to the present. A newly commissioned text by award-winning writer Colm Tóibín further illuminates the artist’s work.
Luma Westbau presents chapter four of the Hans Ulrich Obrist Archives: Gustav Metzger – All of Us Together.
This marks Metzger’s first institutional exhibition in Switzerland in over two decades, highlighting the continued relevance and urgency of his radical, ecologically engaged practice.
Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Arthur Fouray, the exhibition spans two floors and brings together significant works including Liquid Crystal Environment (1965/2025), Drop on Hotplate (1968/2024), and key pieces from the Historic Photographs series.
Alongside these, the exhibition features previously unpublished archival material—letters, handwritten notes, and more than ten hours of interview recordings—offering a rare glimpse into the artist’s thought process. Specially commissioned tribute posters punctuate the presentation, underscoring Metzger’s lasting influence on contemporary discourse.

The Last Day (2023) is a poignant meditation by Rachel Rose on loss, memory, and the passage of time. Prompted by her daughter’s instinctive response to the death of a friend, Rose crafts a lyrical allegory of Earth's evolution, unfolding across seven symbolic “days.” Composed of thousands of medium-format photographs taken in her child’s bedroom, the seven-minute video traverses geological epochs through carefully staged still lifes of everyday childhood objects—drawing connections between deep time and personal experience.
Accompanying the video, five delicate drawings in ink, pencil, and watercolour capture the fleeting rituals of early childhood, offering a tender, dreamlike view into a child’s world.

Kunsthalle Zürich presents the first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland by Berlin-based artist Klara Lidén (b. 1979, Stockholm). Over out und above features new productions alongside earlier works offering insight into the artist’s multi-layered working methods and her exploration of the physical, psychological and social boundaries of public and private space.
Lidén’s artistic vocabulary ranges from architectural interventions in urban and institutional contexts to performative acts of resistance that challenge the collective and social fabric of urban space. The material appropriation of the surrounding environment is another central component of Lidén’s practice as she stages its materials and urban fixtures in the exhibition space.
On the lower floor of Kunsthalle Zürich, a constellation of sculptures reassembles an urban landscape. Square Moon, 2025, rises above the exhibition space like a lamppost, and is placed in dialogue with light boxes from which the artist has erased the original signage. With Untitled (Holes), 2025, Lidén continues to employ her principle of détournement: the works consist of drill cores – concrete cylinders that are sections of urban deep tissue: the underground strata of streets, walls and foundations. Their unassuming title also echoes Lidén’s own artistic strategy, a practice of reversal, removal and detachment running through her entire artistic oeuvre.
The fact that public space is not only materially coded, but also inherently performative, is made evident in Lidén’s work Gang Gang Gang, 2025. The modular sculpture consists of temporary passageways, as used to protect pedestrians near building sites. Layers of graffiti, dirt and other signs of use are visible on the wooden panels, sections of which the artist has treated with reflective paint. This found architecture invites visitors to move through and around the elements and notice not only their otherwise unremarkable or obvious features, but also to consider how they are deployed everyday as a tool in the urban realm.
On the upper floor, the body as both the medium with agency to explore and the subject of spatial governance is also highlighted by the monolithic presence of the two closed cuboids Ring (Nuts) and Ring (Zomb), 2025. Made from building site fences the large-scale sculptures are reminiscent of the reduced vocabulary of minimal art. Their placement at the entrance to the exhibition and in front of the room’s two windows confronts visitors with questions of accessibility and exclusion, while creating hidden spaces – niches and corridors – for other works. Her ongoing series Untitled (Trashcan) is a collection of waste bins from various cities. While stripped of their original function, they still serve as portraits of their respective places of origin.
Finally, the artist's own physical presence takes centre stage in large-format slide projections. The handmade slides – inkjet-printed video stills transferred to clear acetate, cut by hand and mounted – which are projected onto the walls in various sizes, show Lidén enacting new performative actions realised for this exhibition. The coarse-grained black-and-white images document the artist’s slapstick-like attempts to break free from social rules and conventions. Whether walking across a Zürich weir, repairing her bicycle in Berlin or transporting her works through the streets – “the question of re-appropriating privatised, urban space always somehow begins with the body, its ways of moving and the temporalities it engages,” says Lidén.
Removed from their habitat – appropriated, displaced and put on view –, Lidén’s works themselves become like bodies or actors that the viewers are confronted with. Their existence, however, never concerns just the public urban space. Rather, they can also be understood in relation to institutional structures and conditions. After all, public space always arises where bodies are present – whether in urban space or the institutional context of the Kunsthalle Zürich.

The consequences of excessive growth are becoming ever more visible – and awareness of it is constantly increasing. Yet progress, prosperity and social status continue to be equated with the accumulation of material goods. Accumulation invites visitors to engage with the challenges of and alternatives to excess.
Over-consumption intensifies the climate crisis, deepens social inequalities and stabilises (neo-)colonial power relations. But what is the way out? What would the transition from a growth-oriented to a common-good-oriented society look like? The artists in this exhibition respond in different ways to this challenge: some address the issues directly, while others develop methodologies and strategies to counteract the logic of material accumulation.
In two sequences, ‘Accumulation’ explores the notion of accumulation as a defining phenomenon of the current time. In the first sequence, artistic positions critically evaluated the collection practices of museums, highlighted (neo-)colonial structures and identified the social challenges of sustained growth in relation to labour and production. The second sequence makes capital and accumulation tangible on a material and historical level, sheds light on the systemic consequences of the environmental crisis and explores how accumulation and prosperity depend on flexible boundaries between the private and public spheres. The exhibition also focuses on performances and provides additional in-depth theoretical insights in the form of two essays.
The exhibited works with their differing perspectives encourage reflection on the challenges of constant growth and invite discussions about visions for a society centred around the common good, environmental responsibility, and social justice.

Zürich ist ein wichtiges Zentrum der konstruktiv-konkreten Kunst. Auf einem geführten Stadtspaziergang mit der Kunsthistorikerin Linda Christinger werden Werke der konstruktiv-konkreten Kunst im öffentlichen Raum wiederentdeckt.
Von historischen Meilensteinen der Zürcher Konkreten bis zu zeitgenössischen Interventionen im öffentlichen Raum – auf dem Rundgang erfährt das Publikum, wie klare Linien und geometrische Strukturen das Stadtbild prägen. In her art, Klara Lidén (*1979 Stockholm, lives and works in Berlin) deals with the boundaries between public and private space and how she can navigate her body through these spaces. She strolls through cities, collects, dismantles, destroys and rebuilds. Her works are full of energy and reflect a kind of civil disobedience that is linked to resistance and a playful testing of the rules that characterise our environment. In the exhibition Over out and above, she brings together videos of actions and objects from the urban space. Structures that otherwise go unnoticed or are part of everyday life gain a new and surprising effect.
AFTERNOON FOR ALL
We will be inspired by Klara Lidén's exhibition and learn more about her multifaceted work through conversation. After the tour, we will pack up our ‘performance wagon’ and, like Klara Lidén, stroll through public space, and experiment. Sometimes we observe, sometimes we move, sometimes we pose absurd questions. Together we will discover new perspectives on the space around us - and perhaps also ourselves.

'We're just beginning. And the world is wide' brings young people's wishes for tomorrow's world to the Theaterspektakel. Children can think big: what do want for your universe? With fabric, cardboard, colours, glitter and neon we make your wishes into powerful statements. You can exhibit these throughout the festival site or take them out into the city, to make your demands visible.

Karl Holmqvist lives and works in Berlin. His work includes writing in artist’s books, installations, video and spoken word performance.
Recent one-person exhibitions include at Beau Travail, Stockholm; Laxart, Los Angeles; Fridericianum, Kassel; Centre d’Art Contemporaine, Geneva; Kunstverein Braunschweig (with Klara Lidén); Power Station, Dallas; and Camden Arts Centre, London.
He has participated in the Venice Biennial in 2003 and 2011 and Performa, New York in 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2023. His works can be found in the collections of Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Le Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, Fridericianum, Kassel and Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf. He is represented by Galerie Neu, Berlin, dépendance, Brussels and House of Gaga, Mexico City.
The performance takes place on the ground floor loading bay.
